The Druk Path Trek in Bhutan is one of the most popular and scenic trekking routes in the country. This 6-day trek spans approximately 55 kilometers, connecting the cities of Paro and Thimphu. The trail leads trekkers through lush forests of blue pine, fir, and rhododendron, offering stunning views of the Himalayan peaks, including Mount Jomolhari. Along the way, hikers pass by ancient monasteries, serene lakes, and remote yak herder camps. Highlights include the picturesque Jili Dzong, a fortress-turned-monastery, and the sacred Phajoding Monastery. The Druk Path Trek is ideal for those seeking a moderate challenge combined with cultural immersion in Bhutan’s natural beauty.

DAY 1: ARRIVE PARO

Begin your unforgettable journey with Trogon Travels in Bhutan! Greeted with a traditional Bhutanese reception, you'll transfer swiftly to your hotel to relax. After lunch, explore the National Museum and the majestic Paro Rinpung Dzong, then stroll to Nyamey Zam Bridge, reflecting on your first serene day in Bhutan. Drive to capital city of Bhutan, Thimphu.

DAY 2: TAKTSANG MONASTERY

Embark on a hike to the iconic Tiger's Nest, perched on a cliffside, with a round trip taking about 5 hours. This sacred site, a symbol of Bhutan, offers breathtaking views. After the hike, visit the ancient Kyichu Monastery, built in the 7th century, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, rich in history and spirituality, offering a serene atmosphere for reflection.

DAY 3: DAMCHENA-JELE DZONG

10km/ 1100m Ascend/ 50m Descend 

 After a leisurely breakfast, we will take time to pack up and prepare for the day. Lunch will be enjoyed at a local restaurant in town before we drive up to Damchena at 2,880 meters. From here, we'll start our trek, a long but gradual ascent through enchanting forests draped in golden moss. We will reach a herder's camp just before Jili La pass, standing at 3,540 meters. After crossing the pass, we will descend to a picturesque campsite nestled in a meadow, surrounded by vibrant rhododendron forests, offering a serene and beautiful setting for the night at 3490m.

DAY 4: JELE DZONG-JANGCHU LAKHA

10km/ 420m Ascend/ 60m Descend

Begin with gradually ascent and then descend below the ridgeline to walk through the trail of thick alpine forests and rhododendrons. You may see yak herders in the area. There are fascinating views of Jomolhari and other snowcapped mountains and you can also hear some Monal peasants during the day. We continue our uphill walk to reach a yak herders’ pasture at Jangchu Lakha (3780m) with outstanding views of the Himalayan range. We camp in a yak pasture near the hillside

DAY 5: JANGCHU LAKHA-JIMI LANGTSHO

11km/ 370m Ascend/ 340m Descend

The trail follows the ridge and at times through juniper trees and dwarf rhododendrons. The views of the mountain valleys of Thimphu and Paro are sensational. After making an ascent and then a steep descent, we arrive at Jimi Langtsho Lake (3880m). The lake is famous for their giant-sized trouts. Near the camp, you can have great views of 6989m Jichu Drake, the peak representing the protective deity of Paro. Overnight camp close to Jimi Langtsho Lake.

DAY 6: JIMI LANGTSHO-SIMKOTRA TSHO

11Km/ 820m Ascend/ 390m Descend

The trail takes you through dwarf rhododendron trees and bypasses the lake of Janetsho. You may come across some yak herder’s camp and get an idea how these people live. Trail winds and undulates with magnificent view of the Himalaya across deep valleys. Simkotra tsho Lake (4110m) can be seen below after crossing one final spur. We continue our trek until we reach the yak pasture where we camp for tonight.

DAY 7: SIMKOTRA TSHO via PHAJODING/ MOTITHANG (TREK ENDS) THIMPHU

15km/ 130m Ascend/ 1790m Descend

Today you will begin with a gradual climb to a small saddle at 4150m from where you enjoy majestic view of Mt. Gangkar Puensum and other Himalayan peaks on clear weather. You will then descend to another small lake and then climb to the Phume La pass (4210m) which is adorned with beautiful prayer flags. From here, you will enjoy great view of Thimphu city far below. The trail slowly descends through junipers trees to a community hall near Phajoding (3870m). Walk way downhill to Thimphu through a forest of blue pine and juniper until you arrive the roadhead above Motithang on the outskirts of Thimphu valley.

Day 8: PUNAKHA (DAY EXCURSION)

Enjoy a day trip to Punakha, starting with a stop at the picturesque Dochula Pass for stunning Himalayan views. Visit Chimi Lhakhang, the "Fertility Temple," known for its unique blessings. Explore the majestic Punakha Dzong, a fortress rich in history and spiritual significance. After a day of cultural immersion and breathtaking scenery, return to Thimphu by evening, relishing the memories of your journey.

DAY 9: THIMPHU

Discover Thimphu's charm with visits to the towering Buddha Dordenma statue, offering panoramic views of the city. Explore the serene Memorial Chorten and learn about Bhutan's art at the National Folk Heritage Museum. Visit the bustling Centenary Farmers’ Market, and don't miss the traditional Tashichho Dzong, the seat of the Bhutanese government. End the day with a stroll through the vibrant streets of this unique capital city.

DAY 10: DEPARTURE

A Trogon representative will see you off at the airport, ensuring a smooth departure and bidding you a heartfelt farewell, leaving you with cherished memories of your Bhutan adventure.
