Dress

The national dress of Bhutan is called the “gho” for men and “kira” for women. The gho is a knee-length robe worn by men, tied at the waist by a belt called a “kera.” The kira is a long, ankle-length dress worn by women, also tied at the waist with a kera. Both the gho and kira are made from fine, hand-woven fabric, typically made of cotton or wool. The traditional Bhutanese dress is worn by all Bhutanese citizens on formal occasions, as well as by government officials in their workplaces.
