After lunch, we embark on our first cultural exploration as we visit the National Museum of Bhutan. Housed in a former watchtower, it offers a fascinating glimpse into Bhutan’s rich history and cultural heritage. We continued to drive down to visit the majestic Paro Rinpung Dzong which stands proudly on a hilltop overlooking the valley. After the visit, you will walk down the ancient staircase to Nyamey Zam Bridge. later drive to the capital city of Bhutan, Thimphu.
The Memorial Chorten, built in 1974, honors the third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. It features white architecture, golden spires, and intricate mandalas, serving as a daily worship center for Bhutanese. The Buddha Dordenma, a 54-meter-tall statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, overlooks Thimphu, Bhutan. It houses over 100,000 smaller Buddha statues, symbolizing peace and prosperity. Changangkha Lhakhang, a 12th-century temple in Thimphu, Bhutan, is dedicated to Avalokiteshvara. It is a popular place for parents to seek blessings for their children. The takin, Bhutan's national animal, resembles a cross between a goat and an antelope. Native to the eastern Himalayas, it holds cultural significance and can be seen at the Motithang Takin Preserve. Tashichho Dzong, a historic fortress in Thimphu, Bhutan, serves as the seat of government and houses the King's offices. It hosts the annual Thimphu Tshechu festival.
Your trekking adventure begins with a scenic drive to Kabesa, the starting point of the Sinje La Trek. Today's challenge is a 3 hours climb through enchanting forests of blue pine, oak, and rhododendron. As you ascend, you'll gain altitude, reaching your campsite for the night at Sinje La Pass (3460m).
The trail gradually descends through densely forested areas until you reach Chorten Ningpo, where your picnic lunch will be served. After lunch, walk for an hour until you reach the motorable road, where you will be picked up by your car and driven to visit the Punakha Dzong. This winter seat of the Je Khenpo and ancient capital of Bhutan is remarkably located between the Mo (Female) Chu and Pho (Male) Chu rivers. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Embark on a day excursion to Gangtey Valley in Phobjikha, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and natural beauty. Visit the Gangtey Monastery, an important Nyingma monastery, perched atop a hill offering stunning views of the valley. After exploring the monastery, head to the Crane Information Center, which provides insights into the endangered black-necked cranes that migrate to the valley in winter. The center features informative displays and observation decks for bird watching. Drive back to Paro, stopping en route to visit Chimi Lhakhang, the fertility temple dedicated to the "Divine Madman," Drukpa Kunley. Continue the journey to Dochula Pass, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayas and the 108 memorial chortens. Afterward, visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in Bhutan, built in 1629 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. This dzong now houses the Institute for Language and Culture Studies. Conclude the drive to Paro, soaking in Bhutan's rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes along the way.
